A CITY BREAK IN COPENHAGEN – PART TWO

17 January 2017

On our second day in Copenhagen we started my birthday celebrations with an amazing brunch at Mad & Kaffe in Vesterbro. Having read rave reviews it came as no surprise that it was a busy place, but the 40 minute wait outside in the cold, albeit with blankets and coffee, was absolutely worth it. You get to choose a set number of items from the huge menu, basically like breakfast tapas. If it had been open on the remaining two mornings we were there, we definitely would have returned, it was so good!

We then spent the afternoon strolling through the Winter wonderland that is Tivoli Gardens. One of the reasons we chose Copenhagen was that the Christmas markets were still open in the gardens until New Year, and they did not disappoint. Part of my birthday present was tickets to see the Nutcracker at the Tivoli Concert Hall, so after a quick ice skate at Frederiksberg Runddel,we headed back to the Gardens to enjoy the show.

Part 3 is going to be a bit of a whopper, so I’ve included a few photographs of the AC Bella Hotel where we stayed at the end of this post. If you’re looking for somewhere with clean and contemporary design this is the place for you. Although it’s not in the city centre, there is a metro stop right next to the hotel and it’s just a short journey to the centre. We only had breakfast here on the final morning, but there was loads to choose from, including smoothies on tap! The spa was also a great place to relax after being on our feet all day (although it’s worth mentioning that the spa is unfortunately not included in the room rate).

Best Bit : Tivoli Gardens is a definite must see, I’d love to return in the different seasons.
Food : Brunch at Mad & Kaffe, and dinner at Wagamama in Tivoli Gardens.
Top Tip : Book tickets to see a performance at the Tivoli Concert Hall and your ticket includes entry to the Gardens (worth about £14).

Pop back next week for the third and final post, which includes some of Copenhagen’s most iconic sights.
